As health promoters, we teach Health Education in the Junior School and organize seminars for the student population a few times per year. We also have a wealth of information readily available in our office for students to browse or take with them and are always willing to offer a listening ear to students with health concerns. We have contacts throughout the community should students require eye examinations, dental examinations, physiotherapy, massage therapy or chiropractic care. For these non-urgent appointments, students often attend on their own, via school shuttle service or taxi, unless our accompaniment is deemed necessary. The School has access to a counsellor who is available by appointment for individual student counseling (professional fees apply), as well as contacts with the Mental Health Clinic and Nova Scotia Drug Dependency Services at the Hants Community Hospital.
