Dear Parent(s)/Guardians,

The School offers a private practice of individual and family counselling.

My background includes a Masters of Education in Counselling with a specialty in Adolescence. I am a Canadian certified counsellor with the Canadian Counselling  and Psychotherapy Association as well as being a member of the Nova Scotia Association of Professional Counsellors. I continue to update my skills through professional development, including ongoing in-services, conferences and workshops specific to the needs of adolescents. As well, I have written a series of parenting articles and articles for the Canadian Mental Health Association.

My private practice with students includes individual, group and family counselling. This involves a wide range of issues specific to both a boarding and day school environment. These issues can include homesickness and roommate concerns, academic and social skill development, peer pressure, anxiety and depression as well as any other concerns brought forward by administration, staff, family or the students themselves. My style of counselling is both direct and indirect with a focus on building an individual trusting relationship with the client through empathetic listening, reflection and compassion.

Referrals can come from a variety of sources. These include but are not limited to: The Headmaster of King's-Edgehill School, Deputy Headmaster, Head of the Junior School, parents, nursing staff, teachers, advisors or the students themselves. Parents are informed by me or the nursing staff if there is a request for counselling.

Payment is made through individual student accounts and billed by the School accounting office on a bi-weekly basis. The cost is $75.per session.  There is coverage through some insurance plans. Each session is the same length as a class period and generally follows the school schedule. The counselling meeting with the student is kept confidential. The only exceptions to this are any concerns for the physical or emotional safety of the student or if the student needs to be referred to another specialist. Then the parents would be informed.

I look forward to serving the best interests of your children. If you have any questions or general inquiries, please do not hesitate to call. I can be reached at 798-2278 ext. 2237 or 670-6190. As well, you can email me at bbuott@kes.ns.ca or mbettyannbuott@ns.sympatico.ca.

Sincerely yours,

M.Betty-Ann Buott MEd. CCC NSAPC-C
