The School believes that daily physical activity should be an integral part of life. Students are, therefore, expected to participate in a programme of sports each afternoon.
Many students participate in team and individual sports such as soccer, hockey, cross country running, rugby, basketball, volleyball, track and field, biathlon, wrestling, cycling, tennis, badminton, cross country skiing, snowboarding and downhill skiing. School teams in these sports often compete for championships and titles at the provincial level. Both boys and girls teams under the aegis of the Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation compete with regional high schools.
In addition, competitions and tournaments are organized in conjunction with the Atlantic Conference of Independent Schools and teams often travel to other parts of Canada for competition with other independent schools.
While competition in these sports is often at a high level and engenders a great deal of school spirit, participation in varsity sports is truly open to all. Our athletic programme attracts many outstanding athletes to the School, but their involvement in a small school is matched by the active roles played by less gifted athletes who frequently rise to great heights of endeavour in our intensive programmes. As educators it is very satisfying for us to see such students' growing enthusiasm and self-confidence. In all this it is hoped that the tradition of physical activity becomes, for each student, a life-long habit.
