Athletics
Because we believe in educating the whole person, all students take part in a robust programme of physical activity. Students are exposed to a wide range of sports activities and skills. Our goal is for each student to find at least one activity to pursue with diligence and enthusiasm, making physical fitness a lifelong priority.
Public Service
King's-Edgehill Cadet Corps 254 is a long tradition and a source of pride for both School and community. Annual parades, such as the main inspection, the church parade, and the Remembrance Day parade, are vital to School life and add to the local community.
Recreation
There are usually two major trips: the first the end of April and the second the end of May. The first trip has traditionally been an overnight backpacking trip on which students will receive a Leave No Trace certification; the second trip is usually a canoeing and backpacking trip. Daily activities will include: indoor climbing, map and compass work, leadership training, hikes, physical training, and other outdoor activities.
Social Gatherings
Evenings filled with music, skits, comedy and general camaraderie, that's the regular KES Coffee House. These events gather students and staff in a casual atmosphere to share good times away from the rigours of academics. Other events such as the Winter Carnival and themed School dances provide much appreciated breaks.
Leadership
To prepare young people for leadership roles in their future pursuits, we offer serious leadership opportunities in the School community. Our Head Girl and Head Boy lead a group of student prefects who participate in formal leadership training and assist staff in the management of the school, while serving as advisors and role models for younger students.
Counselling and Advising
Not only do live-in teachers maintain close contact with each student's parents, but the entire teaching staff is a strong on-campus presence, available to students beyond the confines of the regular programme. Whether they live on or off the campus, all teachers supervise boarders, offer daily tutorials, coach teams, attend evening and weekend events, and share meals with the community. These meals are valued moments at King's-Edgehill, a time for students and staff to discuss and debate in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. "It's not a job," says Director of Admissions Chris Strickey. "It's a way of life."
