- A Stimulating Environment
- The School offers a healthy environment for learning with clearly defined authority, rules and order as a framework for emerging self-discipline. From the security of established parameters, it is hoped that students will learn the art of expressing their ideas with decorum, and, with the right balance of confidence and humility so that they emerge with minds of their own, a capacity to distinguish sense from nonsense, a depth of magnanimity capable of accepting other viewpoints, a moral independence and a readiness to detect other people's sensitivities. The School's role is not to prevent failure, but rather to help students learn from mistakes in a way in which they can benefit from them. After all the failure is not "in falling down, but in staying down". This approach encourages students to value knowledge for its own sake and to see its pursuit as a lifelong endeavour.
- Nurturing The Mind
- The School encourages a spirit of intellectual exploration in all academic areas and of open-minded questioning in all areas of a student's personal growth and development. Teachers at KES stress a scholarly, rational and rigorous approach to learning, which includes an emphasis throughout all teaching on the proper use of language in both written and oral expression.
- A Faculty For Excellence
- The School recruits teachers who are caring, secure and respectful human beings; such teachers demonstrate a real concern for the emotional, social and physical development of each individual. In addition, the School seeks teachers with strong academic backgrounds who, while concerned with student growth in specific subject areas, are equally concerned with the ways in which students learn and develop. Such teachers are able to work with one another across subject boundaries on an informal, co-operative basis and are interested in their own intellectual and professional growth. In that regard, the School is strongly committed to an extensive programme of professional growth opportunities for all staff.
- Freedom To Teach
- The school values academic freedom and entrusts teachers with the responsibility for curriculum development within established guidelines. It encourages individual approaches to teaching and promotes innovation in the classroom.
- Spiritual Life
- The School recognizes the spiritual element of life, encouraging each student to strengthen his/her whole self by developing the emotional, moral and spiritual aspects of life in concert with the intellectual and physical. At the same time the School respects the rich diversity of religious backgrounds within our student community.
- A Balanced Life
- The School expects both teachers and students to be committed fully to the co-curricular life of the School. Students will thus capitalize on the many opportunities available out of class to develop into well-rounded individuals with lifelong habits of physical fitness, an appreciation of the arts, and such personal qualities as commitment to community service.
- Healthy Competition
- The School promotes healthy and honest competition while at the same time encouraging students to balance the need to compete with the need to work co-operatively with others. We also recognize that individuals should be encouraged to develop their full potential at their own pace, and, within the bounds of co-operative living, in their own way.
- Mutual Respect
- The foundation of both self-worth and effective co-operation is mutual respect. The School expects that all members of the KES community show respect for others. All teachers, students and support staff are entitled to that respect.
